Project Title: Timely Access to Rongo Mori in Cancer Care Services for Mori

Timely access to rongo Mori and cancer care services continue to be a problem for Mori health consumers, patients and their whnau. Prior to the arrival of Europeans in Aotearoa, traditional Mori way of healing was the only hauora practice Mori knew. Today, traditional Mori healing is described in various ways, from Rongo Mori to the ritual used to heal which includes karakia (prayer), wai (water), access to the ngahere (and whenua. For Mori health consumers, patients and whnau accessing cancer care service; seldom they are made aware of or referred early to rongo Mori practitioner at the beginning of their cancer care journey. Using tikanga Mori methodology and codesign with Mori health and iwi providers, our method will include interviews, and hui with rongo Mori practitioner, Mori and Iwi providers, Mori health consumers, patients, their whnau, and health professionals in primary and secondary care in midcentral region to explore ways for timely access to rongo Mori in cancer care services for Mori.
